I'm Done!

I finished my blogs! This is going to be the last one and I only think it is right to write a summary about what I have been reading for the past few months. I am very excited to share for you to see what I have been reading on and how exciting it has been for me. Okay so first it begins with Jonas a regular old kid in a community and is very apprehensive about his Ceremony of Twelve. The Ceremony of Twelve is where all twelves get their jobs in the community that they will have to go through their training too. After that Jonas gets his job as Receiver of Memory he goes through some very tough training and gets transmitted memories of very harsh things from the Giver. The Giver is getting weaker every day and it is getting harder to transmit memories for the Giver. Jonas is starting to see colors and is expanding his ways of memories. As Jonas expands his memories he becomes an even greater Receiver of Memory to help his community.

Making Predictions

Okay so I am more than halfway into the book and I am going to make some predictions on what is going to happen next. I predict that the baby Gabe comes into play soon enough because why would the author put him in the story in such a big part and have him become a useless character. I do not believe that the author will make him amount to nothing so I predict that Gabe comes into the story sometime soon. I also predict that Jonas will start to see colors more often and get more understanding on what it means to be the Receiver of Memory. I think this because he has been going through training for several months now and is growing his understanding already. I also think think that Asher and Fiona will come into play soon because they are both good friends of Jonas and they are the ones who know him best. I also think that they will come into play because Jonas seems very stressed out and under a lot of pressure and they are always here for him. Finally I think that the Giver will have something wrong with him because he is getting weaker and weaker every day that Jonas goes there. I hope to see some of my predictions will come true soon in the book!

All the Colors

As Jonas is now in training for a few days the Giver is starting to tell him more and more about seeing all the colors. He then talks about what the colors will do for him and how they relate back to society. After that, Jonas goes through transmissions which will help him see all the colors not just the color red which he sees flashes of every one and a while. Jonas sees the color red at any given moment and is confused until the Giver explained what they were and said that one day he would see all the colors like the Giver does now. Jonas is growing to see all the colors eventually he will keep working at it and one day he will see all the colors. For now he will just have to keep working at it. Finally Jonas has been going to the Giver for the past couple of months and has grown of the past few months and his eye for seeing colors has improved. He gets flashes of all the colors now and again and finally sees all the reds. The Giver has been transmitting rainbows and other items to help grow his color memory to Jonas. Excited to see how Jonas reacts to seeing all the colors!

The Summary

Okay so I am about halfway done with the book. I want to give you all a brief summary of what I have been reading for the last couple months. Okay so first it starts off with Jonas. Jonas is just a regular old kid in the community. He is just like everyone else. He is turning twelve soon and about to go through the Ceremony of Twelve. He is feeling very apprehensive about this process and doesn't know what he is going to be chosen as. He is then skipped at the ceremony and then later called out to be the Receiver of Memory. His first day of training begins and he walks into the doors of the Annex. He is then called upon by the past Receiver of Memory. After that, he then receives his first transmission about sledding down a hill on a red slide. Then the old Receiver of Memory tells Jonas to call him the Giver. Now Jonas has been through a few days of training and keeps receiving memories and sometimes they are bad like war and violence and other times they are good like sitting on the beach in the warm sun. I am going to keep reading and get back to you on what is happening next in the book The Giver. Talk to you all soon going to keep reading on to see what happens next!

Read The Giver

If you want a fun action packed great read? Then The Giver is your choice. Have you ever wondered what it was like if everything was black and white? Everything was all the same? Well this book gives you a great interpretation of the feeling. As Jonas finds himself in a world of sameness he shows greatly what living in the everyday life of black and white is like. As I read this book and get more and more into it the thrill of this book and how action packed it is, is insane. This book is a strong and powerful influence that could just change your life forever. This book is about Jonas. A regular old kid in a world of sameness, and is apprehensive about the Ceremony of Twelve. The Ceremony of Twelve is a time when twelve year olds get their job in the community based on the Elder's decisions. The Elders are the heads of the community they make sure everything stays in check and running smoothly. They also choose the jobs for the twelves. Jonas is very apprehensive about this because he doesn't know what he is going to be chosen for because he has done volunteer hours lots of places and doesn't really know what he likes. To find out what he is chosen for and the struggles he goes through you have to read the book! Read on!

Seeing the Colors

It is Jonas' second day on the job and he is saying goodbye to Fiona when it happens again. As Fiona turned away to go into the House of Old her hair changed. Not for a long time but only a small glimpse of a change. It wasn't in length or shape of her hair but something was distinctly changed. Jonas then calls back the memory of the sled ride and looks down at the sled underneath him. It happened again the sled changed the same way Fiona's hair did. Also the change happened with an apple a few weeks ago and the people in the audience in the Ceremony of Twelve. Jonas is very puzzled by this and asks the Giver what it could be. The Giver then explains that he is beggining to see the color red. Such as the apple, the sled, Fiona's hair, and the face of people in the crowd. All those situations have the color red in them. Then the Giver explains how he sees all colors and eventually one day he will too. He will once his memory is expanded by what the Giver gives to him.

The Transmit

The Giver lays Jonas down on the bed flat on his stomach. He then presses his hands against Jonas' back. The Giver then says "I am going to transmit a memory of snow" Jonas does not know what snow is at this point. Once Jonas fully relaxed he felt himself getting colder. He shivered licking his lips. He could see his breath and the air got colder and harder to breathe. There were torrents of air crystals that the Giver called snow. Then Jonas looked down and he was sitting on something his conscious told him was a sled. He and the sled were both at the top of a hill. The sled eventually tipped forwards and his face cut through the small ice crystals. It is hard to tell what Jonas is thinking at that point in time because it is not his memory it is being transmitted by the Giver. While he is rushing down the hill on the sled he started to enjoy the easy ride down the hill with the speed of the sled propelling him forwards. When the transmission comes to a stop the Giver asks how he felt. How Jonas truly felt was surprised. I am sure that Jonas is excited to keep learning but I am sure that with all the good memories there must be bad memories also.

The Workplace of Jonas

When Jonas is first beginning on his first day and is walking into the Annex(the building where the Receiver of Memory works) he feels very uncomfortable and is very nervous. When Jonas is walking into the building there are many locks and a speaker. The lady at the front desk is controlling the locks and letting him in. The lady at front desk makes a joke to help relax Jonas from all the nerves he is having. When he walks into the back he sees a nicely furnished room with thousands of books on the wall and he is very confused by that because in every standard house there are only about three books. When Jonas enters there is a man who looks very aged and is sitting in a chair watching him. He then confronts the man and tells Jonas to call him the Giver and that he will show him the ropes. The Giver seems like a very wise and all-knowing man. Then Jonas and the Giver speak about what Jonas will be doing as the Receiver of Memory. As you can see the Annex is a very luxurious place and a very tough job at hand.

Jonas' First Day

Ah! It is Jonas' first day on the job as Receiver of Memory! I am sure Jonas is nervous to begin his job! I can relate to Jonas and how he is feeling because I am always nervous to begin my first day at school. I am always wondering who I am going to be working with or have a class with because he and I are going to have to get along. Also I think he is going to be nervous because he has no idea what that job has in store for him and is one of the most highly respected positions in the community so I would be very nervous if I were him. There are many rules that he got for his position. One is he has to discontinue the use of his stirring medicine. Also this could make him nervous because Jonas has to stop what he has been taught for his whole life. Also another one of the rules is you do not talk about your dreams and you can lie to people. This is something that every child would get yelled at for and now Jonas has to deny everything he has been taught just to go to his job. I am getting a feeling that Jonas is very nervous about his first day at work as the Receiver of Memory

My Predictions

So what I have last been reading in the book was Jonas has just been chosen as the Receiver of Memory. From what I have been reading     Jonas is very nervous about his first day of work. He is nervous because he has no idea what is going to happen to him because nobody knows what goes on inside the book. I can predict from the front of the book that the trainer will be called the giver. I also predict that he is going to have a lot of challenges he has to face in training. He will also be highly respected from other people because it is most highly respectable position in the community. I have seen what the rules is to be the receiver of memory and he has to stop taking his medicine for his stirrings so his dreams can continue happening. I have also felt nervous before starting at a new school it is a completely new feeling and the size, shape, and the system on how it runs makes me to feel extremely nervous and scared when I am in a new situation and don’t know what is going on. I can relate to how Jonas is feeling from that experience. Also I know other books such as the Hunger Games which can relate to the feeling he his having right now. It can relate by when Katniss is very nervous about the new situation she is in and she knows she will have to go through many tests and challenges in the arena. But I am very excited to see how Jonas will react to his tests in training!

The Ceremony Has Arrived

Here we go! It all comes down to this! The annual ceremony has now arrived! Jonas is about to find out his position in the community! Jonas is waiting for his turn to go up and receive his position. First the Ones then the Twos etc. Alright two days have passed since the beginning of the ceremony and everyone is waiting on the Elevens to be called up to become Twelves and receive their position. Asher Jonas' best friend was fourth to be called up out of the Elevens and became the Director of Recreation. Jonas is 19th to be called up out of the Elevens. But wait what is this the Chief Elder skipped over Jonas' name? There must be a mistake! After finishing all of the other Elevens the Chief Elder spoke. He exclaimed "I know you are all thinking I made a mistake but in reality we have chosen Jonas as the Receiver of Memory." Ah! Now Jonas has a huge task to deal with how is he going to become the most highly respected person in the community? The training is also going to be very challenging both physically and mentally. I am really looking forward to reading ahead to see how he handles his first day and his training!

The House of Old

Jonas, Fiona, and Asher from the book The Giver  are volunteering in the House of Old. They are all in the bathing room helping to wash the old. Jonas starts to think to himself about how he feels about the law where only newborns and the old can only be exposed. He thinks to himself about how it is a dumb rule and how it is a nuisance to hide yourself when changing for games. He also thinks about how nice Fiona is. But wait! What is this Jonas has a dream about Fiona. This can't be! Oh and what kind of dream is it? It is Jonas' first stirring. Jonas now has to go on a medication to stop the stirrings. Everyone in the community who has had a stirring has to take the medication. Also I am very excited to see what things happen between him and Fiona!

The New Baby Arrives!

In the book I am reading The Giver there is a new baby in Jonas' family. Only he is not going to live with them forever. He is a part time guest in the family. He is there because he is not sleeping well at the nursery. His name is Gabriel but Jonas' family calls him Gabe. Gabe is Jonas' dads' favorite and wants to make sure he doesn't get released. Lily Jonas' sister is exremely caring of Gabe and wants him to stay in her room. The annual ceremony is coming up and I am not sure he will make the cut. I am very excited to see what happens with Gabe and Jonas' family and see if the bond together and want to keep him!

The Apprehensive Ceremony of 12

Uh Oh! The ceremony of 12 is coming up! In the book I’m reading The Giver. Jonas is feeling very apprehensive about this ceremony. The reason he is so apprehensive is this ceremony he is going to get his job in the community and he is not sure what it is going to be. Jonas is also nervous because he doesn't know if the elders (people who run the community) are going to make the right decision about his job. I’m sure Jonas has nothing to worry about though. The elders always make the right decision right? I have felt the same way as Jonas before when I was first getting my part for a project at school. I was very nervous. I was not sure they would make the right decision but the teachers had been watching me all year and seeing what areas I exceled just like the elders did for the people in their community. What will Jonas’ position be in the community? Only time will tell what Jonas be.

The Giver pre-read blog post

The book I have chosen to read is The Giver. The Reason I chose this book is it looks like it will be action packed and full of interesing detail from the back. Another reason I chose this book is because my mom kept telling me to read it. The characters name is Jonas. He lives in a society thought to be a utopia because the giver keeps all the pain and pleasure to himself so noone else has to suffer the pain. I am very interested in reading this book and ready to start reading!
