The Ceremony Has Arrived

Here we go! It all comes down to this! The annual ceremony has now arrived! Jonas is about to find out his position in the community! Jonas is waiting for his turn to go up and receive his position. First the Ones then the Twos etc. Alright two days have passed since the beginning of the ceremony and everyone is waiting on the Elevens to be called up to become Twelves and receive their position. Asher Jonas' best friend was fourth to be called up out of the Elevens and became the Director of Recreation. Jonas is 19th to be called up out of the Elevens. But wait what is this the Chief Elder skipped over Jonas' name? There must be a mistake! After finishing all of the other Elevens the Chief Elder spoke. He exclaimed "I know you are all thinking I made a mistake but in reality we have chosen Jonas as the Receiver of Memory." Ah! Now Jonas has a huge task to deal with how is he going to become the most highly respected person in the community? The training is also going to be very challenging both physically and mentally. I am really looking forward to reading ahead to see how he handles his first day and his training!

The House of Old

Jonas, Fiona, and Asher from the book The Giver  are volunteering in the House of Old. They are all in the bathing room helping to wash the old. Jonas starts to think to himself about how he feels about the law where only newborns and the old can only be exposed. He thinks to himself about how it is a dumb rule and how it is a nuisance to hide yourself when changing for games. He also thinks about how nice Fiona is. But wait! What is this Jonas has a dream about Fiona. This can't be! Oh and what kind of dream is it? It is Jonas' first stirring. Jonas now has to go on a medication to stop the stirrings. Everyone in the community who has had a stirring has to take the medication. Also I am very excited to see what things happen between him and Fiona!

The New Baby Arrives!

In the book I am reading The Giver there is a new baby in Jonas' family. Only he is not going to live with them forever. He is a part time guest in the family. He is there because he is not sleeping well at the nursery. His name is Gabriel but Jonas' family calls him Gabe. Gabe is Jonas' dads' favorite and wants to make sure he doesn't get released. Lily Jonas' sister is exremely caring of Gabe and wants him to stay in her room. The annual ceremony is coming up and I am not sure he will make the cut. I am very excited to see what happens with Gabe and Jonas' family and see if the bond together and want to keep him!

The Apprehensive Ceremony of 12

Uh Oh! The ceremony of 12 is coming up! In the book I’m reading The Giver. Jonas is feeling very apprehensive about this ceremony. The reason he is so apprehensive is this ceremony he is going to get his job in the community and he is not sure what it is going to be. Jonas is also nervous because he doesn't know if the elders (people who run the community) are going to make the right decision about his job. I’m sure Jonas has nothing to worry about though. The elders always make the right decision right? I have felt the same way as Jonas before when I was first getting my part for a project at school. I was very nervous. I was not sure they would make the right decision but the teachers had been watching me all year and seeing what areas I exceled just like the elders did for the people in their community. What will Jonas’ position be in the community? Only time will tell what Jonas be.

The Giver pre-read blog post

The book I have chosen to read is The Giver. The Reason I chose this book is it looks like it will be action packed and full of interesing detail from the back. Another reason I chose this book is because my mom kept telling me to read it. The characters name is Jonas. He lives in a society thought to be a utopia because the giver keeps all the pain and pleasure to himself so noone else has to suffer the pain. I am very interested in reading this book and ready to start reading!
